Northridge

Sheltered by the Santa Susana Mountains, Northridge can trace its history back to the 1700s. First named after the biblical name meaning Oasis, the area had a spring of water that became the gathering place for the local Native Americans. The tapped-off spring still exists today at the intersection of Reseda Blvd. and Parthenia. Becoming famous as a shipping point for produce, Northridge and the surrounding areas enjoyed fertile soil, producing nuts, olives and citrus. What was once an agricultural center became a retreat for the movie stars. A hideaway from the Hollywood life, notables enjoyed horse ranches and relaxing havens just outside the city.

In their free time, residents can enjoy studio tours, visits to theme parks or one of many museums and galleries. Perhaps the most breathtaking is the Getty Center, located on the cusp of the mountains with beautiful ocean views. This architectural wonder includes incredible gardens, a Romanesque aqueduct, research institute and an impressive library devoted to all artistic endeavors. One can find “Zen” in the nearby Japanese Gardens, a 6.5- acre stroll garden. For a more festive night out, residents visit the nearby Universal City Walk. A promenade of restaurants, shops, movie theaters, an interactive fountain and street performers, City Walk offers fun for the whole family. With wonderful weather, recreational hiking, camping and horseback riding are popular in the canyons and mountains that surround the valley.

Whether it's the diverse recreational opportunities, the legendary warmth of our Mediterranean climate or the business-friendly environment, Northridge and the surrounding communities afford a quality of life second to none.
